Summer in the City
Troy’s Prospect Park

When the heat of the city closed in on the residents of Troy, they left for Mount Ida and Troy’s Prospect Park. Designed by Garnett Douglass Baltimore, first Black graduate of RPI, Prospect Park has been a welcoming oasis for more than 100 years. We will explore the history of the park, from when the Warren and Vail families built their “cottages” on the hill, to Wesley Bintz designed above ground pool. All of this and spectral views of the Hudson Valley from the summit

Before registering, please note the following:

  • Ticket purchase is required beforehand.

  • This tour will leave from the Pavilion in Prospect Park.

  • Admission to the museum is included in the cost of the walking tours. Tickets are $20 per person/$15 HCM Members. Children age 17 and under free.

  • Tours take place rain or shine and run from 60 to 90 minutes long. The tour experience includes walking several blocks on city streets with uneven sidewalks. Walking shoes and weather-appropriate attire are advised.

  • The Hart Cluett Museum provides all walking tour participants with headsets, allowing each visitor to listen to the tour guide’s commentary while also ensuring everyone’s safety. Please note that while you may use or bring your own earpieces/earbuds, single use earpieces will also be provided at the time of the tour.


Requests for a ticketing change or a full refund must be sent to kprue@hartcluett.org at least 48 hours prior to the tour start time. Full refunds will be issued if the museum cancels a tour. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
