Bringing Vacation Home: Our Community On Vacation

  • Rensselaer County Historical Society 57 Second Street Troy, NY 12180 USA (map)

Whether you travel far afield or enjoy a “staycation,” what are the ways you hold on to memories of those special times away from the workaday world? Members of our community have lent objects, each one reflecting some aspect of their travels or the travels of other family members.

Three of the many objects brought home from vacation on view in the current exhibit until December 2019.

Mementos of day trips to historic sites, summer picnics, a trip to the Great Escape or other amusements, something carefully brought home from travels farther afield within the US or from our travels abroad, perhaps for a purpose like education, for a social cause or service - even a rock or piece of driftwood found while getting out into the “wild” by hiking, camping, or boating - each of these objects represents our personal perspective on our time away, often life-altering experiences, and our attempt to capture the impact of that travel as we return home.
