Building on the interest in the South End Tavern Signs, this exhibit includes a number of signs in the permanent collections which illustrate Rensselaer County’s inventive ways of letting people know about businesses, products, and events. Many of these signs have not been on view for many years. Signs - we pass them daily telling us where to go, what to buy and sometimes what to do. They mark the places and events that tell our shared history. They provide a way to discuss a number of issues from trends in signage and communication, to the technology of signage as it has evolved over two centuries.
