Commemorating Memorial Day

This Memorial Day weekend, we honor those who died while serving: commemorating their sacrifices and dedication to their communities and beyond.

Rensselaer County has time and time again sent it’s citizens to fight and serve in all branches of military service. From John E. Wool’s service from the War of 1812 to the Civil War Draft Riots to those who serve today at home and abroad - Rensselaer County and our region’s military have made a difference, even making the ultimate sacrifice.

These select photographs and poster from our permanent collection are reflective of Rensselaer County’s long history of Military Service and the ways in which our community has honored and commemorated their service and sacrifices.

Commemorating military service is done in many ways. How does your community commemorate those who served their country?
