Did you know the Census started in 1790 under the Census Act of 1790?

Yup - passed during the 2nd Session of the First Congress in March of 1790, the U.S. census has since collected valuable data documenting our historical record, reflecting America’s changes and growth over the last 230 years. Even the Hart Family took part in the Census! Check out this copy of the Hart Family census from 1855 from our permanent collection.
