expanding the blast the trumpet of liberty curriculum guide 2005-2020
Since 2005 when the curriculum guide Blast the Trumpet of Liberty: African Americans in Troy in the Nineteenth Century was first published, much new information has been discovered in researching Black Americans in Rensselaer County. From the purchase of the watercolor portrait of Peter F. Baltimore, a noted Black resident and abolitionist, to the many discoveries found in the archives of the Troy Savings Bank, a more comprehensive history of the Black community is taking shape. This exhibit reveals some of this new information through the lens of a variety of resources here at the museum, bringing the story up to the present day.
