WHM Resources and Beyond

In recognition of Women’s History Month, the Hart Cluett Museum has gathered some resources to provide greater access to the women that have defined the City of Troy, Rensselaer County, and the nation.

Reflecting and appreciating Women’s History is not bound to the length of March so please note that these resources are accessible year round.

  • National Museum of American History

    • Girlhood (It’s complicated) commemorates the anniversary of women’s suffrage by exploring the concept of girlhood in the United States, but also how girls changed history in five areas: politics, education, work, health, and fashion. We argue that girlhood has an unexpected and complicated history and that girls, like suffragists, used their voices to make a difference. This exhibition website has six main sections: News & Politics, Education, Work, Wellness, Fashion, & A Girl's Life.

  • National Park Service

    • Every March during Women's History Month and throughout the year, the National Park Service and their partners share stories, rich culture, and an invitation for all Americans to reflect on the remarkable legacies of American women in parks and communities across the country.

  • The Library of Congress

    • The Library of Congress has a large digital collection that highlights the work and lives of women. Of interest is LOC's exhibition on Rosa Parks, which is the first major exhibition to showcase the Rosa Parks Collection.

  • The National Archives

    • The National Archives invites you to browse the wealth of records and information documenting the women's rights movement in the US, including photographs, documents, audiovisual recordings, educational resources, exhibits, articles, blog posts, lectures and events.

  • Veterans History Project

    • See stories from the Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress, highlighting women serving in the military service throughout U.S. history.

  • Fulton History

    • This digital database of thousands of newspapers from around the country includes 19th and 20th Century Troy newspapers as well as archives of over 1,000 New York newspapers, along with collections from other states and Canada.
