Congress St. Bridge
Could you imagine Congress Street with two-way traffic now?
The first image above is of the Congress Street Bridge, c. 1962. It was published in City of Troy New York Master Plan (1962) - which served as “a guide to the community’s growth and development.” The plan was split into five sections: Land Use Plan, Community Facilities Plan, Thoroughfare Plan, Central Business District Plan, and Capital Improvement Plan, with each section aiming to illustrate that “significant progress [could] be made by the city in the next 20 years towards the goals spelled out in this report.”
The City of Troy New York Master Plan is a great tool for discussing the impacts of Urban Renewal, especially here in Troy, NY. This copy of the plan (2nd image above) is part of the permanent collection of the Hart Cluett Museum. Digital versions are accessible online.
