Women’s Work
Stitchers, Ironers, and Laundresses

10,000+ women were employed in the shirt and collar factories in Troy. This tour will explore the many factories and related businesses north of Federal Street and the union activities of Kate Mullaney and the Collar Laundresses Union.

Please note the following:

  • Please purchase your ticket in advance to secure your spot on the tour.

  • This tour will leave AND end the Hedley Building at 433 River Street, parking in lot across the street.

  • Admission to the museum is included in the cost of the walking tours. Tickets are $20 per person/$15 HCM Members. Children age 17 and under free.

  • Tours take place rain or shine and run from 60 to 90 minutes long. The tour experience includes walking several blocks on city streets with uneven sidewalks. Walking shoes and weather-appropriate attire are advised.

  • The Hart Cluett Museum provides all walking tour participants with headsets, allowing each visitor to listen to the tour guide’s commentary while also ensuring everyone’s safety. Please note that while you may use or bring your own earpieces/earbuds, single use earpieces will also be provided at the time of the tour.


Requests for a ticketing change or a full refund must be sent to kprue@hartcluett.org at least 48 hours prior to the tour start time. Full refunds will be issued if the museum cancels a tour. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
