Join the Hart Cluett Museum and Troy Savings Bank Music Hall to experience the Gilded Age in Troy!

This is a new tour route! After a performance at the music hall, take part for a new tour of Troy’s East Side, exploring landmarks including Emma Willard School, the Troy Orphan Asylum, and the architecture of Stanton P. Lee along Pawling Avenue. This tour starts at the corner of Pawling and Maple and ends at Sacred Heart Church.

Schedule:

9:30am Performance at Troy Savings Bank Music Hall (30 Second Street Troy, NY 12180 directions ) Street parking and space in the music hall’s parking lot on Second and State Street

10:30am Walking Tour of Hillside on the East side of Troy, drive from music hall to meet at Pawling and Maple Avenue Street parking available

UPDATE 10/2/24: Due to ongoing renovation work, the Historic House will not be available for tours after the Walking Tour.

The walking tour will cover a new route in the Hillside Neighborhood. After the performance attendees will drive to meet Troy City and Rensselaer County Historian, Kathy Sheehan, at Pawling Avenue.

Tour of Hillside Suburb in Troy with homes that date from 1827 up to 1905! Highlighting architectural styles: Greek Revival, Italianate, and Colonial Revival. This neighborhood may be featured in season 3 of the Gilded Age. See how this Troy eastside neighborhood grew during the Gilded Age! With the advent of the trolley from downtown to the east side, this suburban neighborhood grew after the Civil War, attracting new industrialists out of the city.

This program begins with a performance of Late Romantic music inside the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall (which was transformed into the historic Academy of Music for filming HBO’s The Gilded Age). Hear about the history of the music hall and enjoy a performance before your walking tour!

 

Before registering, please note the following:

·       Ticket purchase is required beforehand.

·       This program will take place in multiple locations: Attendees will meet the group at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall for the 9:30-10am performance, then drive to the walking tour meeting spot. Attendees are invited back to the Hart Cluett Museum following the tour anytime 12-5pm to explore the galleries and historic house.

·       Tickets are $40 per person. Children 16 & under are free. Admission to the museum is included in the cost of the walking tours.

·       Tours take place rain or shine and are limited to 30 people per program. The tour experience includes walking several blocks on city streets with uneven sidewalks. Walking shoes and weather-appropriate attire are advised.

·       The Hart Cluett Museum provides all walking tour participants with headsets, allowing each visitor to listen to the tour guide at their preferred volume. Please note that while you may use or bring your own earpieces/earbuds, single use earpieces will also be provided by the Hart Cluett Museum at time of tour.

Cancellation Policy as of April 28, 2024:
Refunds or exchanges for ticketed tours and programs must be requested no fewer than 5 days prior to the program date. A $2.30 processing fee per ticket will be charged for refunds. If HCM cancels a tour or program, a full refund will be issued. Walking tours will be cancelled if there is extreme weather.
